Each of the following 3 works of art, the Baku, the Elephant, and the two men, each of these come from a very old Japanese collection.
From my many years of experience, I can say that the quality is very high and that such items are quite rare - these seem to come from a Japanese Jinja Shrine (a Shinto Shrine, not a Buddhist Shrine).
Baku, seen here, the carving or state with the long curving nose, are said to give you good dreams.
The Japanese thought the elephant to be an amusing animal from very far away but, having never seen one, portray them with something less than perfect accuracy.
